COASTAL BANKSIA INTEGRIFOLIA TUI FOOD

At our garden centre (Seen in the left picture above) we have a grove of 15 5m 15 yr old Banksias feeding a male Tui & his 3 wives – he has to stay near all day to fight off other males trying to muscle in to what attracts his gfriends – humans use flash cars n homes – Tuis use food source trees! I have a video of a Tui licking up n down n around a number of Banksia flowers on one of my trees – enjoying an obviously enjoyable meal……..

Unfortunately this tree can’t be sold in Auckland area coz its seeds germinate nearby with a risk of overtaking our natives in eg Waitakeres. Shortsighted decision makers deprive these birds of a wonderful food tree in that area…..
