Interesting juvenile form with downward facing narrow lance like leaves. Often used as features around taller houses & buildings……
Personally my favourite is Ferox with the saw tooth leaves – it also has a ridged & fissured more interesting thicker trunk & much slower growing……
Around 18 yrs of age narrow leaves are replaced with a normal top knot of rounded green leaves as a mature tree look……
All pseudopanax cross fertilise & many hybrids are born with similarities to either parent. The seeds are happily eaten & dispersed by birds often germinating under other trees. heavy frosts will burn off new leaves on all forms – often the growing tip is damaged too leading to the plant becoming multi branched……
