PRUNUS FELIX JURY & CAMPANULATA SUPERBA TUI FOOD

Pendulous wine coloured blossoms – Tuis love these very early spring flowers full of nectar. Bloom mid Aug – Superba is one of several flowering cherries banned in Auckland region. Its a shame about the parent seeding as its such vital nectar for insects & birds in late July when very little food around for them.

Superba is one of a group of flowering cherry hybrids bred by various nurserymen that Tuis use for food. These include the lovely carmine red Felix Jury and baby pink daintier Okame. Together with the pink later larger Sargent Cherry, plant these to flower over 6-8 weeks just before the kowhais bloom for continuous feeding of the Tuis & White Eyes.
