PRUNUS FELIX JURY & CAMPANULATA SUPERBA TUI FOOD

Pendulous wine coloured blossoms – Tuis love these very early spring flowers full of nectar. Bloom mid Aug – Superba is the sterile hybrid & not the seeding one banned in Auckland region. Its a shame about the parent seeding as its such vital nectar for insects & birds in late July when very little food around for them. Ive been told anecdotally that there are indeed Campanulatas growing wild & spreading in the Taupo region – the Tuis will be so happy about that! Shame the humans aren’t?

Superba is 1 of a group of sterile flowering cherry hybrids bred by various nurserymen that Tuis use for food. These include the lovely carmine red Felix Jury, baby pink daintier Okame, pink later larger Sargent Cherry – plant all of these to flower over 6-8 weeks just before the kowhais bloom for continuous feeding of the Tuis & White Eyes. Choice of all these brands in our stock…….
